Delta Fishing Report

4/30/08

Black Bass:

The river's largemouths seem to finally be making a big surge to the shallow spawning grounds of the system and anglers are taking advantage of that move.  This past week has seen some very high winds, but it didn't seem to slow the anglers who braved the elements and hit the water as most of them reported very high fish counts with a sprinkling of larger fish mixed in.  Flipping plastics such as Senkos and Sweet Beavers up shallow has been the top producer with Drop-Shotting 6" and 7" Roboworms not far behind.  Dark Colors have been flying off the shelves such as Green Pumpkin, Junebug, Black/Blue, Penetration, Hillbilly Special, Margarita Mutilator, Red Craw and Baitball.  For those into the reaction baits Cranking Lucky Craft BDS 3 & 4, LV-500 and Luhr-Jensen Speed Traps in any red pattern available has been putting fish in the boat as well.

Striped Bass:

The Sacramento River is still putting out big numbers of linesides to the fleet of trollers anywhere from Chain Island to Walnut Grove.  Broken-Back Rebels, Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows and P-Line Predator Minnows are all fish catchers especially when drug around in 10' of water or less.  Colors like Trout, Chrome/Orange, Red Head/White and Gold/Black have all been catching stripers and don't forget to drag a Zoom Trick Worm off the last treble hook on your baits, White and Bubble Gum have been the top colors.

River Round-Up:

Other than stripers and Black Bass, not much else to report on.  Sturgeon are hit and miss right now, The cats have been getting really active just about anywhere you go on the river.  Clams, Nightcrawlers and stink baits are winding them in.  Bluegill and Crappie are popping up through out the shallows as well.
